13 Mar Main Street Successful Grant Uptake
March 9, 2017
The Main Street Swift Current program has once again been successful in attracting Provincial Grant funding for several local community projects.
“We made 10 applications for Provincial funding and seven were successful – six for the full amount and one partial,” said Main Street Coordinator Erin Gehl.
“The total value of the grants received is just shy of $60,000, on a matching basis, which results in almost $120,000 being invested in downtown projects,” continued Gehl. “From design work to event and banner programs, Main Street Swift Current received a great show of support from the Provincial Program. Carl Pilat and his son Curtis received funding in the amount of $20,000.00 to begin the process of restoring one of Swift Current’s historical gems, the Professional Building.”
The City of Swift Current’s Planning & Growth Development and Infrastructure & Operations Divisions were successful in some of their applications as well. Both Divisions applied for funding for projects that comply with the newly-developed Downtown Master Plan and Design Guidelines.
“We are pleased with the results. It creates momentum for the restoration of our heritage buildings while showcasing our downtown, what it has offer and what the possibilities could be,” said Gehl.
Since becoming a Main Street Accredited Community, Swift Current has received over $40,000 in matching grant funding. Other successful businesses that have received funding include Optical Image, Sputtergotch Toy Company and the Lyric Theatre. The Main Street Program is provincially-based and delivered by the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport.
